En este LP, "Road To Ruin", Johnny Ramone tomó un rol más participativo en la composición y los conflictos entre él y Joey aparecian paulatinamente. Joey pretendía que el siguiente álbum sea exitoso y popular, mientras que Johnny no le deba importancia a la popularidad. El resultado fue la diversidad estilística entre el pop ("Don't Come Close" y "Needles & Pins" por ejemplo) y el punk rock clásico ("I Wanna Be Sedated") de "Road to Ruin", editado en 1978.
